Mr. Walter Cracknell

Walter "Danny" Cracknell, 96, of Alliance, OH, died on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at Indiana University Health La Porte Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was born January 28, 1915 in Alliance, Ohio, the son of Charles William Cracknell and Annie Marie (Chappell) Cracknell. Walter had been living in LaPorte for the past two years. Walter worked as a structural fitter for Morgan Engineering, retiring May of 1978. He was a member and past president of the "Black Hawks" motorcycle club. He loved riding motorcycles and owned many through the years. Walter enjoyed pheasant hunting, and gardening. He enjoyed raising, riding and owning Tennessee Walker horses through the years. Walter especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. "We were blessed to have been able to spend the last two years with him here in LaPorte. He was a wonderful Dad and Grandpa, and Great-Grandpa. He was a wonderful Grandpa making sure all our needs were always met." On June 20, 1942, in Cleveland, OH, he married Rachel Ann Marshall Cracknell who preceded in death May 11, 1981. He is survived by his son - Danny (Kathy) Cracknell, Sr. of Rolling Prairie, IN; three grandchildren - Danny (Colleen) Cracknell, Jr., Jason R. Cracknell, Rachel (J.R.) McNeal all of La Porte; three great-granddaughters - Hannah M. Cracknell, Renee N. Cracknell, Reese A. McNeal all of La Porte; three great-grandsons - Caleb J. McNeal, Joel A. Cracknell, Ethan J. W. Cracknell, all of La Porte. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Walter was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Rachel Ann Cracknell, five sisters, and five brothers. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. where the family will receive friends Saturday, April 30, 2011 from 9:00 am, until time of service. Services will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Saturday April 30, 2011 at 11:00 am CST with Pastor Eric Hickman officiating. A graveside service will be held at the Alliance City Cemetery, Alliance, OH. on Monday, May 2, 2011 at 11:00 am EST with Pastor Julian Hoffman officiating.
