Mr. Virgil Horner

Virgil Wesley Horner January 22, 1927 - June 28, 2012 Mr. Virgil Wesley Horner, 85, of La Porte, Indiana, died Thursday June 28, 2012 at his home. He was born January 22, 1927 in Three Oaks, Michigan, the son of Alva S. Horner and Flossie (Winmill) Horner. Virgil retired as a postal clerk from the US Postal Service and retired from Wal-Mart in 2009. He was a member of Galena Baptist Church, custodian of the church for many years, and attended First Church of God. He was a veteran of the US Army during WW II and a member of American Legion Post #83 of LaPorte. On July 23, 1948 in La Porte, IN he married Mildred (Ott) Horner who preceded him in death on Jan. 28, 2001. On October 20, 2001, in Sparta, MI, he married Patricia (Funk) Heiss-Horner who survives. He is also survived by his son - Richard (Chico) Horner of La Porte, IN; daughter - Julie (Bill) Kuespert of La Porte, IN; 3 step-sons - Scott (Cathy) Heiss of Saranac, MI, Dennis (Denise) Heiss of Cedar Springs, MI, Thomas Heiss of Cedar Springs, MI; 2 step-daughters - Kristine Heiss of Rockford, MI, Penny Thompkins of Walker, MI; brother - Lawrence Horner of Galien, MI; sister - Dora Martinsen of Smithers, British Columbia; 22 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mildred Horner, brother, Alfred Horner, step-daughter, Beth Buyze Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN. the family will receive friends at the Galena Baptist Church 1748 E. 1000 N. La Porte, IN. 46350 on Saturday, July 7, 2012 from 10:00 am, until time of service. A Memorial Life Celebration will be held at the Galena Baptist Church on Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 11:00 am with Rev. Floyd Wilcox officiating. Burial of ashes will follow at the Heckman Cemetery.
