Mrs. Virginia Harness

Virginia Mae (Monroe) Harness of Kingsford Heights, IN living in the area since age 9, went to be with her Lord and Savior surrounded by family at 9:40pm on March 10, 2012 at Indiana University Health La Porte Hospital. Virginia was born on August 24, 1925 in Illinois to Henry and Ophelia (Lanie) Monroe. Surviving is her loving husband of over 60 years, Alfred Harness Jr. who she married on June 2, 1951 in Walkerton, IN. Also surviving, son David W.(Karen) of Kingsford Heights, daughter Judy (Raymond) Rowlett of Bonanza, OR; grandchildren Richard, Bill, and A.J. of OR, WA, VA, Andrea, Kristen, and Hayley, of Kingsford Heights; nieces Maxine Elkins of Walkerton, Dorothy Burgbacher of FL, and Carol Stacy of Kingsford Heights; nephew Bob Monroe of Rolling Prairie and many others. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Venus Marie, five brothers, Burt, Carl, Howard, Art, Homer, and Dick; one sister, Thelma Hollingsworth Virginia worked in an ammunition plant in Kingsbury Ordinance Plant while her soon to be husband fought in World War II. She later went to Nursing School in Chicago, Illinois and worked at the Holy Family "E" Street Hospital and later the LaPorte Hospital retiring in 1988. Virginia was a very devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, baking her favorite apple pie, spending time with them, and teaching them about God's Word. She had been a member and attended the Kingsford Heights Wesleyan Church regularly for years teaching and helping in many children's ministries and cooking at the church's district campground. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. where the family will receive friends Tuesday, March 13, 2012 from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm Wednesday, March 14, 2012 10:00 am, until time of service. Services will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Wednesday March 14, 2012 at 11:00 am with Pastor Mike Brown officiating. Interment will follow at the Kingsbury Cemetery, Kingsbury, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kingsford Heights Wesleyan Church - Camp Fund P.O. Box 249 Kingsford Heights, IN 46346.
