Mrs. Verdellia Parker

Mrs. Verdellia Mae Parker, 81, of Kingsford Heights, Indiana, died Thursday, October 4, 2012 at Golden Living Center-Countryside in LaPorte, IN. She was born July 8, 1931 in Opelika, Alabama, the daughter of Lemmie Bynum and Flossie (Jones) Bynum. Verdellia worked 13 years for American Home Foods. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She was very involved in her church. Verdellia worked with the civil rights commission. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. On December 24, 1976, in South Bend, IN, she married Bennie Parker who preceded her in death September 4, 2002. She is survived by her stepson - Bennie Parker, Jr. of Indianapolis, IN; 3 grandchildren - Tammula Hardin of Minneapolis, MN, Clarence (Loudora) Hardin III of Merrillville, IN, and Nate Hardin Wilson of Dallas, TX; fifteen great grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; two step grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; 3 sisters - Zelma Booker of South Bend, IN, Bernice (John) Thomas of Benton Harbor, MI, and Barbara Ann Howard of Flint, MI., brother - Harold (Alma) Bynum of Hurst, TX.; 2 sister-in-laws, Juanita Bynum of Dover, DE., and Ferrie Bynum of South Bend, IN., and a host of nieces and nephews. Verdellia was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Clarence Hardin, sister, Theodosia Wilborn, brother, Samuel Bynum, brother, Lemmie Bynum, Jr., brothers, Glen, and Alonzo Bynum. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN. The family will receive friends at the First Baptist Church of Kingsford Heights on Saturday, October 13, 2012 from 11:00 am, until time of service. A life celebration will be held at the First Baptist Church of Kingsford Heights on, Saturday October 13, 2012 at 12:00 pm with Pastor Patrick Reed. Sr. officiating.
