Mrs. Ruth Stassel

Ruth H. Stassel April 26, 1920-December 23, 2013 Ruth H. Stassel, 93, of La Porte, Indiana, died Monday December 23, 2013 at LaPorte Hospital. She was born April 26, 1920 in La Porte, Indiana, the daughter of Albert Bachmann and Margaret (Peterson) Bachmann. Ruth worked as a LaPorte Co. and Women's Page Editor for LaPorte Herald Argus. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, former member of the Evening Circle and Circle 3 of the church, past board member LaPorte Recreation Dept., LaPorte Amateur Music Group, Sigma Phi Gama International Sorority, LaPorte Bowling Assoc. Hall of Fame, past president of LaPorte Tennis Association. She was a founding member of the Civilian Conservation Corp. LaPorte Chapter 105, American Legion Post #83 Auxiliary, and lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 1130 Auxiliary. On September 27, 1947, in LaPorte, IN, she married Alexander "Alex" Stassel who preceded her in death August 8, 1985. She is survived by her 5 daughters - Diane Stassel of La Porte, IN, Rita Hubner of La Porte, IN, Darlene (Randy) Klement of La Porte, IN, Ramona Stassel of Niles, MI, Margaret Lisiecki of Villa Rica, GA; 2 sons - Douglas Stassel of La Porte, IN, Alex J. Stassel of La Porte, IN; brother - William (Blanche) Bachmann of La Porte, IN; 5 Grandchildren - Christopher Klement, Wyatt Hubner, Leena Hubner, Megan Lisiecki, Mitchell Lisiecki. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Linda Stassel, sister, Lorraine Alban, 3 brothers, Albert E. Bachmann, Richard Bachmann, Robert Bachmann. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends Thursday, December 26, 2013 from 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm and Friday, December 27, 2013 from 12:00 pm, until time of service A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Friday December 27, 2013 at 1:30 pm with Rev. Ronald A. Brauer officiating. Interment will follow at the Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to the Donor's Choice.
