Mrs. Mildred Roempagel

Mildred Roempagel September 30, 1915 - July 12, 2012 Mrs. Mildred Roempagel, 96, of La Porte, died at her home at Brentwood Assisted Living on Thursday, July 12, 2012, following a brief illness. She was born September 30, 1915 in La Porte, Indiana, the daughter of Walter Hilgendorf and Emma (Mellenthin) Hilgendorf. Mildred had been a lifelong resident of La Porte. Mildred was a graduate of La Porte High School and served for many years as the secretary to the pastors of St. John's Lutheran Church, of which she was a member. She had also been a member of its Circles 3 and 7, the Altar Guild, St. John's Senior group and a volunteer at St. John's Thrift Shop. On August 29, 1936, in La Porte, Indiana, she married Elmer H. Roempagel, who preceded her in death on December 10, 1991. She is survived by her daughter - Arlene (Jimmie) Hacker of La Porte, IN; grandaughter - Janet (William) Lockridge of Hanna, IN; 2 grandsons - David Hacker of Menomonee Falls, WI, and Wayne Hacker of St. Charles, MO; 2 great grandsons - James Lockridge of Hanna, IN, and Chad (Vernelle) Lockridge of Plymouth, IN, and 1 great-great grandaughter - Olivia Lockridge. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 brothers, Norman and Donald Hilgendorf. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends Saturday, July 14, 2012 from 9:00 am, until time of service. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Saturday July 14, 2012 at 11:00 am with Rev. Ronald A. Brauer officiating. Interment will follow at the Pine Lake Cemetery, La Porte, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John's Lutheran Church Stained Glass Window Fund.
