Mrs. Marilyn Rist

Mrs. Marilyn S. Rist, 72, of La Porte, Indiana, died Friday April 27, 2012 at her home. She was born December 5, 1939 in Odon, Indiana, the daughter of Vernon Porterfield and Mary Etta (Guthrie) Porterfield. Marilyn was the former owner of Marilyn's Restaurant in downtown LaPorte. She was a loving mother and grandmother and an excellent cook. She never met a stranger and was always helping others. On April 7, 1960, in Michigan City, IN, she married Bill Rist who survives. She is also survived by her 2 sons - Michael Rist of La Porte, Patrick Rist of Austin, TX; 3 daughters - Barbara (Eric) Rist-Klink, Peggy (Michael) Patterson, and Susan Rist all of La Porte; 11 Grandchildren - Bailey Rist, Taylor Poyer, Shelby Rist, Cameron Rist, Seth Carabine, Raquel Carabine, Diana Patterson, Angel Patterson, Jacob Patterson, Lillian Rist, Mason Rist; and a brother - Norman Porterfield. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN where the family will receive friends Tuesday, May 1, 2012 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm & Wednesday, May 2, 2012 from 10:00 am until time of the service. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Wednesday May 2, 2012 at 11:00 am with Rev. Jack Balon officiating. Cremation will follow.
