Mrs. Lavina Richman

LaVina G. Richman, 94, of La Porte, Indiana, died Sunday, March 31, 2013 at Indiana University Health La Porte Hospital. She was born December 6, 1918 in La Porte, Indiana, the daughter of William Jefferson Garwood and J. Eleanora (Erickson) Garwood. LaVina was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, and was a 80 year member of the Bethany Lutheran Church Choir. She was also a member of the La Porte Amateur Music Club, Pinola Grange, Phi Delta Kappa Wives and Carmel League. LaVina was a graduate of Westville High School. She had worked at Allis Chalmers, Teledyne and Roll Coater. On February 17, 1946, in LaPorte, IN, she married Robert E. Richman who preceded her in death September 28, 2002. She is survived by her three nephews - John (Diane) Hughes of La Porte, IN, Gerry (Janet) Garwood of La Porte, IN, Dale (Lori) Garwood of Granger, IN, and one niece - Patricia (Don) Laskowski of La Porte, IN; several great nieces and nephews; great great nieces and nephews, and sister-in-law - Mildred Garwood of La Porte, IN. LaVina was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, Betty Hughes, and one brother, Clarence "Bud" Garwood. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN. The family will receive friends, Saturday, April 6 from 9:00 am, until time of service at the Bethany Lutheran Church. A life celebration will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 10:30 am with Rev. Dennis Meyer, officiating. Interment will follow in the Carmel Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana.
