Mrs. Evelyn Johnson

Mrs. Evelyn J. Johnson, 88, of LaPorte, Indiana, died Sunday, November 4, 2012 at Indiana University Health La Porte Hospital. She was born July 24, 1924 in La Porte, Indiana, the daughter of Norman Henning and Mable (Gust) Swanson and raised by Elmer C. Swanson, Sr. Evelyn was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church. She worked for LaPorte School Corporation for eight years, retiring in 1972. Evelyn enjoyed painting later in her life. On September 15, 1945, in LaPorte, IN, she married Andrew J.C. Johnson who preceded her in death December 19, 1999. She is survived by her son - David (Kathleen) Johnson of Mishawaka, IN; three step grandchildren; two great grandaughters; sister - Mary Jane (Dick) Foreman of Elkhart, IN; brother - Elmer "Swede" (Jeanna) Swanson Jr. of La Porte, IN; five nieces and nephews. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, and husband and one step-grandson. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN where the family will receive friends Wednesday, November 7, 2012 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm & Thursday, November 8, 2012 from 10:00 am, until time of service. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Thursday November 8, 2012 at 11:00 am with Rev. Dennis Meyer officiating. Interment will follow at the Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana.
