Mrs. Estella Desmond

Estella Desmond June 22, 1952-March 7, 2013 Mrs. Estella Desmond, 60, of La Porte, Indiana, formerly of Logan, West Virginia passed away Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Indiana University Health La Porte Hospital after a long battle with cancer. She was born June 22, 1952 in Logan, West Virginia, the daughter of Kirby Davis and Margaret (Gore) Davis. Estella and her husband, Bill, worshipped at the LaPorte First Church of the Nazarene. She was employed at Thanhardt Burger in LaPorte for over 25 years. Estella enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her nieces and nephews, traveling and playing Bingo. She and her devoted niece Tammy Barnes of LaPorte shared a special bond, often traveling and playing Bingo together. Tammy lovingly referred to Estella as "Shaw". On November 23, 2002, in LaPorte, IN, she married William "Bill" Desmond who survives. She is also survived by her 2 step-sons - William "Billy" Desmond, Jr., Patrick Desmond both of Chicago, IL; 4 sisters - Lorene White, Peggy Curnutte, and Susan "Myrtle" Mullins all of Logan, WV, and Marjorie Rood of La Porte, IN; 2 brothers - Kirby Davis, Jr. of Charleston, WV, Cecil K. Davis of La Porte, IN, and her beloved cat - Sylvia. Estella was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, Jacob "Jake" Davis, Charles "Joe" Davis, and 2 sisters, Ormae Lloyd,,and Rose Blankenship. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN where the family will receive friends Monday, March 11, 2013 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm & Tuesday, March 12, 2013 from 10:00 am, until time of service. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Tuesday March 12, 2013 at 11:00 am with Rev. Dan McDonald officiating.
