Mrs. Ella Porter

Ella Frances Porter March 17, 1931-December 25, 2013 Mrs. Ella F. Porter, 82, of La Porte, Indiana, died Wednesday December 25, 2013 at Indiana University Health La Porte Hospital. She was born March 17, 1931 in Cosby, Missouri, the daughter of Clifford E. Gilchrist and Ethel Gilchrist. Ella retired as a Claims Specialist for Farm Bureau after 33 years of service in 2006. She was a member of Rolling Prairie United Methodist Church, and was a member of the United Methodist Women of the Church. She loved being in the yard and watching the birds, enjoyed traveling, and going on cruises. She was very family oriented and loved being with the family. On June 11, 1949, in Rolling Prairie, she married Kenneth Porter who survives. She is also survived by her 4 sons - Hugh Porter of Farmington Hills, MI, Kent (Angie) Porter of La Porte, IN, Kirk (Lauren) Porter of Chicago, IL, Bret Porter of Indianapolis, IN; brother - Gilbert Gilchrist of Rolling Prairie, IN; sister - Norma Bardusk of Oak Park, IL; 8 Grandchildren - Morgan Porter, Mallory Porter, Brianna Porter, Joshua Porter, Tyler Porter, Adam Porter, Cassondra Porter, Troy Porter; and 2 Great Grandchildren - Rory Porter, Zaiden Porter. Ella was preceded in death by her parents; 3 grandchildren, Kyle Porter, Andrew Porter, Jennifer Porter; 2 brothers, William Gilchrist, James Gilchrist; 2 sisters, Nellie Kaufman, Glenna Williamson; and daughter-in-law, Theresa (Hugh) Porter. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends Sunday, December 29, 2013 from 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm., and on Monday, December 30, 2013 from 9:30 am until time of service at the church. A life celebration will be held at Rolling Prairie United Methodist Church, Monday December 30, 2013 at 10:30 am with Pastor Debbie K. Beason and Rev. Dorthy Jones officiating. Interment will follow at the Rolling Prairie Cemetery, Rolling Prairie, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rolling Prairie United Methodist Church.
