Mrs. Edna Marie Simpson, 87, of LaPorte, Indiana, died Wednesday April 17, 2013 at Hamilton Grove in New Carlisle, IN. She was born June 12, 1925 in La Porte, Indiana, the daughter of James Moon and Marie (Gloff) Moon. Edna was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of LaPorte, she graduated from St. John Lutheran School and also from Boston High School. Her working career started at Woolworth Dime Store, Iselman's Dairy, and working 23 years at Kingsley Furniture. Edna also worked for the County Council on Aging and at the Soil and Conservation office. Edna retired at the age of 78. She loved sewing, crocheting, embroidery, and enjoyed playing piano. Edna loved keeping in touch with friends and family. On September, 4 1948, in LaPorte, Indiana she married James William Simpson who preceded her in death October 1, 1981. She is survived by her son - James (Julie) Simpson of Union Mills, IN; 2 daughters - Connie (Mark) Donovan of Houston, TX, Brenda (Don Hufgard) Smith of La Porte, IN; 8 Grandchildren - Derek (Eve Kacmar) Simpson, Leslie (Troy) Ryan, Shawn (Casey Schiesser) Schaeffer, Carrie (Kerry) Graves, Jeff Schaeffer, Jason Smith, Jeremiah Smith, Britton (Jennifer) Smith; 3 Great-Grandchildren - Ashten (Mark Beyers) Simpson, Austin Simpson, Garret Ryan; 1 great-great grandchild- Myla Simpson; sister-in-law - Elsie Simpson of New Carlisle, IN, several nieces, nephews, and cousins; 3 honorary daughters - Fay McCoy of LaPorte, IN, and Mary Pointon of Westville, IN, and Victoria Collings of Medina, OH; 5 honorary grandchildren - Dorothy Spurrier, Mary Hicks, Michael Pointon, Staci Watterson, Stephani Lowery; best friend of 82 years Dorothy Zirzow and Sandra Feare who showed unwavering dedication as her caregiver. Edna was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother, Donovon Moon. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends Friday, April 19, 2013 from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm with a time of sharing starting at 7:30 pm & Saturday, April 20, 2013 from 11:30 am, until time of service. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Saturday April 20, 2013 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Ronald A. Brauer officiating. Interment will follow at the Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana. A luncheon will be held at St. Johns Lutheran Church after the interment.
