Mrs. Betty Stephani

Betty M. Stephani April 14, 1921 - July 4, 2012 Mrs. Betty M. Stephani, 91, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Wednesday July 4, 2012 at Brentwood Assisted Living in La Porte, IN. She was born April 14, 1921 in Wheatfield, Indiana, the daughter of George Cites and Edith (Vick) Cites. Betty was a housewife and mother until her children were older and then she worked for Union Township High School as a lunch cook, Dog & Suds Root Beer Stand as a cook, and later retired from American Home Foods to help with the farm. She also baked and decorated cakes for birthdays, weddings and special occasions. Betty was a 4-H Club Leader for many years. She enjoyed reading, bowling, traveling and sewing. Betty was a very caring, loving and giving person who especially loved the time she spent with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, family and friends. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Tracy, IN. On June 5, 1940, in Tracy, IN, she married Richard R. Stephani who preceded her in death January 27, 1978. She is survived by her daughter - Jo Ann (Wallace) Wisnieski of La Porte, IN; 5 grandchildren - Debra (Jack III) Bennett, Gail (Kevin) Rumbaugh, Heather Wisnieski, Kayla Fisher, William "Bill" Fisher; 2 great-grandchildren - Ava and Nina Bennett; brother - George (Marianne) Cites; sister - Sara (Wayne) Iseminger, and numerous nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 daughters, Norma Miller, Peggy Fisher, son, John Stephani, grandchild, Jaimie Fisher, 2 brothers, Robert Cites, Lewis Cites, and 2 sisters, Irene Leek and Mira Murvihill. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends Sunday, July 08, 2012 from 2:00pm - 4:00pm & Monday, July 09, 2012 from 9:30am until time of service. A Life Celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Monday July 9, 2012 at 10:30am with David Albertin officiating. Interment will follow at the Tracy Cemetery, Hamlet, Indiana.
