Mrs. Anna Benson

Anna Mae Benson, 91, of LaPorte, Indiana, died Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at her home. She was born January 6, 1921 in Rolling Prairie, Indiana, the daughter of Chester Earl Cunningham and Agnes May (Kelsey) Cunningham. Anna worked twenty-one years for Allis Chalmers, retiring in 1984. She was a member of the First Christian Church of LaPorte for 80 years, secretary to the Board for 17 years, also a deacon, elder, and financial secretary for the church. Anna was a member of the Alpha Mu Masters-Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, LaPorte Hospital Auxilliary-Life Member, Senior Citizen Recreation Club for Older Adults, Elk Country Club, LaPorte Yacht Club-Life member, American Legion Auxilliary for 57 years, CWF-Christian Women's Fellowship, Church Women United and was a Veteran of the US Army during WW II. On December 18, 1946, in Chicago, IL, she married Marshall E. Benson who preceded her in death April 6, 1994. She is survived by her daughter - Linda M. Larson of La Porte, IN; son - John E. Benson of Orlando, FL; 6 Grandchildren - Lisa (Christopher) Larson- Hicks, Becky (Nathan) Benson- Battleday, John Benson, Jason Larson, Brian Davis, Samantha Cardwell; 9 great-grandchildren - Brooke, Bailey, Conner Hicks, Clayton, Wesley & Jacob Battleday, Seth and Monica Benson and Savannah Cardwell; one sister Fran Wainscott of LaPorte, IN.; several nieces and nephews. Anna was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, Ellen Lorraine Burkhart. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. where the family will receive friends Friday, March 16, 2012 from 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm & Saturday, March 17, 2012 from 10:00 am, until time of service. A Life Celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Saturday March 17, 2012 at 11:00 am. A Military Service will be conducted by the LaPorte Honor Guard.
