Mr. Robert Tompkins

Mr. Robert "Ernie" Tompkins, 77, of Mill Creek, Indiana, died Saturday April 27, 2013 at his home. He was born October 4, 1935 in South Bend, Indiana, the son of Russell Tompkins and Esther (Heltzel) Tompkins. Ernie worked 32 years for Tonn and Blank. He was a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church, Mill Creek Community Lion's Club and Lincoln Twp. Farm Bureau, and Local 81 Laborer's Union. Robert was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed camping, gardening and working on old farm tractors. On July 23, 1955, in Mill Creek, Indiana, he married Yvonne (Kelley) Tompkins who preceded him in death July 5, 2012. He is survived by his daughter - Cindy (Charles H.) Bair of Mill Creek, IN; 2 Grandchildren - April (Matthew) Chadwick of Ft. Belvoir, VA, Charles R. (Jaime Moss) Bair of La Porte, IN; 4 Great-Grandchildren - Mackenzie Bair, Aiden Chadwick, Cody Bair, Conor Bair. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, wife and brother, Russell Tompkins. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends Wednesday, May 1, 2013 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Thursday May 2, 2013 at 10:00 am with Rev. Ronald Devenport officiating. Cremation will take place. Burial of ashes will take place at a later date at the Oak Grove Cemetery, Mill Creek, Indiana. A Mill Creek Community Lion's Club service will take place at 7:15 pm on Wednesday, May 1, 2013.
