Mr. Robert Schmidt

Robert Willard Schmidt March 10, 1919 - January 2, 2013 Robert Willard Schmidt, 93, of La Porte, Indiana, died Wednesday January 2, 2013 at Oak Woods Manor. He was born March 10, 1919 in La Porte, Indiana, the son of Charles Schmidt and Flora (Hildebrand) Schmidt. Robert retired as a vice-president for Farm Credit Services after 25 years. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, La Porte County Council, the La Porte fair board, 4-H Leader for 15 years, and was a director of the Purdue AG Alumni Association. He served in the US Navy and was a veteran of WWII as Lt. Commander aboard the U.S.S. ATR-11. He also enjoyed woodworking. On October 25, 1947, in Baltimore, MD, he married June Thrasher Schmidt who preceded him in death June 10, 2007. He is survived by his son - Ivy (Patricia) Schmidt of La Porte, IN; daughter - Arlene (John) Schrader of Bloomington, IN; 5 Grandchildren - Jacob (Jocelyn) Schrader of Ellettsville, IN, Abigal Schrader of Bloomington, IN, Thomas G.(Andrea) Schmidt of La Porte, IN, Dawn (Adam) Wiseman of Hamlet, IN, Christopher (Taylor) Schrader of Estes Park, CO; 4 Great Grandchildren - Adam Wiseman II of Hamlet, IN, Brooke Wiseman of Hamlet, IN, Amelia Schmidt of La Porte, IN, Hailey Schrader of Estes Park, CO. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, wife and 3 brothers, Norman Schmidt, Richard Schmidt, and Charles R. Schmidt. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN. Visitation will be held at St. John Lutheran Church, where the family will receive friends Saturday, January 19, 2013 from 12:00 pm until time of service. A life celebration will be held at St. John Lutheran Church, Saturday January 19, 2013 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Ronald A. Brauer officiating. Interment will follow at the Door Village Cemetery, La Porte, Indiana.
