Mr. Robert Peals, Sr.

Robert Art Peals Sr. December 27, 1944-December 14, 2019 Mr. Robert Art Peals, Sr., 74, of La Porte, IN, passed away Saturday December 14, 2019 at La Porte Hospital. He was born December 27, 1944 in Brickeys, Arkansas, the son of Elijah Peals and Lelia Mae (Miller) Peals. He gave his life to Christ at an early age joining Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. G.H. Hall as a Sunday school teacher. Art later became a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Michigan City, IN. and then the New Testament-Faith Baptist Church in Benton Harbor, Mi. Art was a member of the NAACP and member of Lake Michigan Lodge #46 Free and Accepted Masons and a 32nd Degree Wabash #77 Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend Masons. He had a Degree in Architecture where he learned how to read blueprints and measurements and was certified in Agriculture, which he harnessed a plethora of skills. He displayed these skills and leadership qualities as a Union Steward Supervisor at Allis Chalmers and La Porte Foundry. With the extensive knowledge he possessed, Art was able to build his own garage from ground up, and fully wire building up to code. Remodeling his residence at 120 McClung Rd, La Porte, IN., was only the beginning of the multitude of tasks he done throughout his life. He was an over-the-road Truck driver and shortly thereafter, bought his own Semi and became a successful owner operator. Art loved fishing, hunting, and gardening, growing his own vegetables was important to him because it represented self-sufficiency. On April 18, 1968 he married Charlene (Davis) Peals who survives. He is also survived by his two sons, Bennie Peals of La Porte, IN; Robert Peals, Jr. of Indianapolis, IN; daughter, Aretha (Peals) (Farrin) Wigfall of La Porte, IN; six brothers, Solomon (Patricia) Peals; Ray (Olivia) Peals Sr.; Jerry Peals; Rickey Peals; David Lee Peals; and Curtis (Annie) Peals; two sisters, Celia Mae (Frank) Vinson; and Lurena Lenear; as well as 12 grand-children and 20 great-grand-children. Art was preceded in death by his father Elijah, mother Lelia; and brothers, Elijah and Ernest Peals. Elijah's wife Delia and Ernest's wife Shirley still survive. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends Friday, December 27 from 5-8 pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 28 at 11 am.at the funeral home with Pastor Ray Peals Sr. officiating. Interment to follow at the Pine Lake Cemetery, La Porte, IN.
