Mr. Raymond Bowen

Raymond L. Bowen, 86, of La Porte, IN passed away October 27, 2012 at Indiana University Health - La Porte Hospital. He was born November 14, 1925 near Bellair, IL to Eldo and Hazel (Sims) Bowen. Raymond spent June of 1943 to March of 1946 in the U.S. Naval Reserve, and spent 16 months in the South Pacific during W.W. II. On September 14, 1946 in Oblong, IL he married Nina Lamb and they shared 66 years of happy marriage. Raymond worked for 34 years at Dye Plumbing and Heating in La Porte as a heating serviceman and service manager. After retiring he enjoyed traveling and writing memoirs as family keepsakes. He was a charter member of the Maple City Lions Club in which he was very active as long as health allowed. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #83 and V.F.W. Post 1130 both of LaPorte. He is survived by his wife Nina; 2 daughters, Carol (John) Nolan of Woodridge, IL, Nancy Miller (Jay Coffeen) of LaPorte; 1 son, Doug (Annette) Bowen of Broken Arrow, OK; 2 granddaughters Sarah and Beth both of Oklahoma; and 2 sisters-in-law. He is preceded in death by his parents; 1 daughter Charlotte Williams; 1 brother and 1 sister. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN where the family will receive friends Monday, October 29, 2012 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm & Tuesday, October 30, 2012 from 10:00 am until time of the service. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Tuesday October 30, 2012 at 11:00 am with Rev. Everett Shattuck officiating. Interment will follow at the Patton Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana where the American Legion - V.F.W. Honor Guard will conduct military honors. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the VNA Hospice of LaPorte, P.O. Box 250 LaPorte, IN 46350; First Christian Church of LaPorte, 610 Maple Avenue LaPorte, IN 46350, or the Maple City Lions Club. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Mr. Raymond L.
