Mr. Leroy Mcallister

Leroy Allen McAllister, 86, of La Porte, IN, died Thursday May 5, 2011 at his home. He was born January 11, 1925 in La Porte, Indiana, the son of Leonard McAllister and Ethel (Kellogg) McAllister. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. He served in the US Navy during WW II in the Pacific Theater. Leroy retired from New York Blower Co. in 1987 after forty plus years, starting work as a draftsman, then Mold Supervisor at the Plastics Division and finishing up as a Production Engineer. He enjoyed woodworking and fishing. On April 24, 1948 St. John Lutheran Church Parsonage he married Evelyn E. Winkfein McAllister, this marriage ended in divorce. On July 24, 1965, St. John Lutheran Church Chapel, he married Marie E. Schweder McAllister who preceded in death December 7, 2007. He is survived by his 3 sons - Jerry (Cindy) McAllister of Austin, TX, Don (Pat) McAllister of Galveston, TX, Roy (Loretta) McAllister of Houston, TX; seven grandchildren; a brother - Dale (Donna) McAllister of Gladwin MI; 3 nieces and 3 nephews. LeRoy was preceded in death by his 2 daughters, Sheryl Lynn, Vicky Lynn and a brother Gene R. McAllister. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, Ind. where the family will receive friends Monday, May 9, 2011 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm & 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm & Tuesday, May 10, 2011 from noon until time of the service. Services will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Tuesday May 10, 2011 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Ronald A. Brauer officiating. Interment will follow at the Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Michigan City, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 130 Redcoach, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
