Joseph Nicholas Watnick January 21, 1927-December 29, 2012 Joseph Nicholas Watnick, 85, of Rolling Prairie, Indiana, died Saturday, December 29, 2012 in Chicago, IL. He was born January 21, 1927 in White Lake, South Dakota, the son of Anthony Watnick and Delia (Thoat) Watnick. Joe had been the owner of Joe's Marathon in Michigan City, retiring in 1988 and worked part-time at Wheatbrooks He was a member of United Methodist Church of Rolling Prairie. Joe was a veteran of the US Army during WWII. He was a charter and life time member and Past Commander of the VFW Post #9423 in Rolling Prairie and for 23 years called bingo at the VFW Post #9423, also a member of the American Legion of New Carlisle, IN. Joe helped with the food pantry and fair projects through the church. On November 15, 1947, in Rolling Prairie, IN, he married Marian E. (Hebert) Watnick who preceded him in death January 16, 1996. He is survived by his 2 daughters - Debra (Mike) Harris of Rolling Prairie, IN, Bette (Dave) Schaefer of Rolling Prairie, IN; son - Joseph (Jackie) Watnick of La Porte, IN; 5 grandchildren - Roseann (Chris) Woolverton, Denny (Bethany) Masek, Jr, Darin (Katie) Watnick, Ken (Cristina) Watnick, Chris Watnick; 6 great-grandchildren - C.J. Woolverton, Dreydyn Watnick, Kayhj Watnick, Emma Watnick, Levi Watnick, Kara Watnick, and long-time special friend - Vivian Parker. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one sister, Theresa Gourley and one brother, Leonard Watnick. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends Thursday, January 3, 2013 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm & Friday, January 4, 2012 from 10:00 am, until time of service at the United Methodist Church of Rolling Prairie. A life celebration will be held at United Methodist Church of Rolling Prairie, Friday, January 4, 2013 at 11:00 am with Rev. Dorothy Jones officiating. Cremation will take place with burial of ashes at a later date. In Lieu of Flowers Contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church Food Pantry of Rolling Prairie 3376 E.
