Jerry Ray Shepherd November 17, 1948 - April 9, 2013 Mr. Jerry Ray Shepherd, 64, of La Porte, Indiana, died Tuesday April 9, 2013 at Regency Hospital in Portage, Indiana He was born November 17, 1948 in La Porte, Indiana, the son of John Albert Shepherd and Icie (Clemons) Shepherd. Jerry had worked for Howmet Corp and was an auctioneer. He enjoyed shooting, fishing on his boat, hunting and going to the casino. Jerry enjoyed having cook-outs with his family. He was also a 17 year veteran of the US Army. On June 27, 1993, in La Porte, IN, he married Judith (Houston) Shepherd who preceded him in death February 27, 2012. He is survived by his 2 sons - John Ray Shepherd of La Porte, IN, DeWayne Lee Wills of MO; 4 daughters - Robin (Roger) Brewer of La Porte, IN, Connie (Don) Obadencio of Union Mills, IN, LaDonna Michelle Hammonds of La Porte, IN, and Teresa Lynn Zihlavski of Los Angeles, CA; fourteen grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister, Lena Mae Doyle, son, JR Shepherd, and grandchild, Joshua Wayne Hammonds. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends Friday, April 12, 2013 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Friday April 12, 2013 at 7:00 pm with John Grossl officiating. Cremation will take place. Final resting place will be in Newberg, Missouri with full military honors at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Family of Jerry Ray Shepherd.
