Mr. Hugh Vales

Hugh M. Vales August 8, 1947-September 28, 2011 Mr. Hugh M. Vales , 64, of Hamlet, Indiana, died Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at his home. He was born August 8, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of James R. Vales and Ruth M. (Butler) Vales. Hugh worked as a correctional captain for Westville Correctional for thirty years. He was a member of NRA, Starke Co. Amateur Ham Radio Association, AR 15 Club, Ducks Unlimited, and was a State Fire Arms Instructor, and the IPFTA (Indiana Police Firearms Training Assoc.). Hugh was a veteran of the 33rd Div. Field Artillery as a Sergeant of the Illinois National Guard, and a member of the Indiana Army Reserve. He was an outdoorsman. Hugh was a beloved father, grandfather, and husband. He was a great friend and mentor to all. On May 3, 1969, in Evanston, IL, he married Lynn (Van Diver) Vales who preceded him in death December 30, 2006. He is survived by his two sons - Benjamin (Jennifer) Vales of Mill Creek, IN, James (Rebecca Petrone) Vales of Hamlet, IN; daughter - Stacey (Daniel) Vales Clemons of La Porte, IN; grandson - Daniel James Clemons; two brothers - James (Lucille) Vales of Chicago, IL, and Kevin Judge Vales of Minneapolis, MN. Hugh was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother, Dennis Vales, one sister, Sharon Harrison, and one nephew, Michael Vales. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN. where the family will receive friends Monday, October 3, 2011 from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm & 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm & Tuesday, October 4, 2011 from 11:00 am, until time of service. Services will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Tuesday October 4, 2011 at 12:00 pm. Cremation will take place.
