Mr. Glenn Sanders

Glenn K. Sanders May 1, 1926 - September 6, 2012 Mr. Glenn K. Sanders, 86, of LaPorte, Indiana, died Thursday September 6, 2012 peacefully in his home with his son by his side. He was born May 1, 1926 in Antigo, Wisconsin, the son of Kenneth Sanders and Glen (Seering) Sanders and was blessed to have been thoughtfully raised by Walt and Adela Utnehmer. In his early twenties, he moved from Wisconsin to the LaPorte area with his new bride, Helen (Patzer) Sanders, whom he married on August 2, 1948. Glenn worked for Holderbaum's Garage for over a decade before he became owner of Sanders Lake Side Service station in LaPorte. In the mid - seventies, Glenn sold the service station and opened Sanders Repair. Throughout, he enjoyed spending time with his family on the lakes and woods of Indiana and Wisconsin, building boats, restoring and showing antique cars, building and flying model airplanes, bowling in several local leagues and pitching horse shoe. After his retirement in the eighties, Glenn spent his time honing his wood working skills as well as building and flying ultra- light airplanes. He was an active member of the LaPorte Aero Club. Glenn is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Helen, his sisters Mary Joanne Sampson and Dorothy Stewart, and one son, Russell Sanders. He is survived by his brother Forrest Sanders; sister Lois Reiter; two daughters, Mary Jo Keim of Prescott Valley, Arizona, and Marie (Scott) Matheson of San Jose, California; one son, Michael Sanders of LaPorte; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., 602 Maple Avenue, LaPorte, where the family will receive friends Tuesday, September 11, 2012 from 3:00 pm, until time of service. A Life Celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at 5:00 pm with Dan Evans, officiating. Cremation will take place.
