Mr. George Demeyer

Mr. George L. DeMeyer, 86, of La Porte, Indiana, died Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at Hamilton Communities, Inc. in New Carlisle, IN. He was born March 11, 1926 in Mishawaka, Indiana, the son of Octave DeMeyer and Helen (Accoe) DeMeyer. George was a veteran of the US Navy during WWII. He had worked at LaPorte Transit and retired in 1992. He kept busy and worked as a manager/caretaker for Lange Tree Farm until 2005. George spent the last five years at Hamilton Communities. He was a member of Knights of Columbus, Moose Lodge of Michigan City, thirty-seven year member of the Men's Democratic Club, and PNA of New Carlisle, IN. and VFW of Rolling Prairie. He was a past board member of the New Prairie United School Corporation. George brought his family to LaPorte in 1956 to the family farm on 1000 North. He enjoyed being out on the farm working. He enjoyed time with his family and especially his grandchildren, who where very special to him. On August 6, 1949, in South Bend, IN, he married Eleanor (Jeziorski) DeMeyer who preceded him in death October 3, 2009. He is survived by his five children; Georgia Ann Shepherd of Dallas, TX, Diane Sue DeMeyer of Mishawaka, IN, Patricia (Lawrence) Mrozinski of Rolling Prairie, IN, son - Robert (Diane M.) DeMeyer of La Porte, IN, and Debbie (David) Versaw of Three Oaks, MI; seven grandchildren - Larry Mrozinski, Jr., Kellie Sturgeon, Candace Nelson, Lisa DeMeyer, Jason DeMeyer, Daniel Versaw, Deanna Huss; eight great-grandchildren - Zachary Mrozinski, Andrew, Ashton, and Audrie Sturgeon, Kate and Jack Nelson, Madison Huss, and Elle DeMeyer. George was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one sister, Marie Amberg,and three brothers, Raymond, Charles, and Albert (Bill) DeMeyer. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN where the family will receive friends Monday, October 29, 2012 from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm CDT. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Monday, October 29, 2012 at 3:00 pm CDT with Deacon Chris Hawkins officiating. Burial of Ashes will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 10:00 am CDT at the St. John Kanty Catholic Cemetery.
