Mr. Garth Conrad

Mr. Garth A. Conrad, 56, of La Porte, Indiana, died Thursday October 18, 2012 at his home. He was born October 29, 1955 in Hobart, Indiana, the son of Warren Conrad and Jean (Burress) Conrad. He is survived by his mother, Jean Conrad of Hobart, IN.; brother - Mark Conrad of Hobart, IN; sister - Myrna (Bill) Smar of Sugar Grove, IL; niece - Casey Jean of Chicago, IL; friends and business partners - Paul and Miki Bartholemew of La Porte, IN; Garth was preceded in death by his father. Garth was a landscape designer and a founding partner of Quail Ridge Nursery and Landscaping, Inc. He designed hundreds of landscapes from northern Illinois to southwest Michigan ranging from cottage gardens to large estates. He served as president of Quail Ridge Farms and as president of Garth A. Conrad Associates, a design and build landscape company. Garth was very active in the environmental field. He taught landscape design at Purdue North Central and was an active member of MELA, the Midwest Ecologica Landscape Association, serving on their Board of Directors and as President. He organized conferences and seminars on sustainable landscape practics and advocated an industry wide, sustainable approach on environmental issues. He was also on the board of the international APLD, the Association of Professional Landscape Designers and served as chair of several committees on environmental and professional landscape issues. He was a graduate of the University of Indiana. Garth leaves many friends and a legacy of integrity and vision to all who knew him... Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN where the family will receive friends Wednesday, October 24, 2012 from 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm & Thursday, October 25, 2012 9:00 am, until time of service. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Thursday, October 25, 2012 at 11:00 am with Rev. Richard Poole officiating. Cremation will take place. Burial of ashes will be held at the Posey Chapel Cemetery, La Porte, Indiana. at a later date.
