Mr. Charles Graves

Mr. Charles R. Graves, 85, of West Lafayette, Indiana, (formerly of LaPorte) died Thursday, December 13, 2012 at River Walk Village Nursing Home in Noblesville, IN. He was born November 8, 1927 in Highlands, Texas, the son of Lester Graves and Dorothy (Gathwright) Graves. Charles worked as a certified welder with Metal Fabricating, Co. and for Alloy-Craft Metal Products in Delphi, Indiana for 22 years. He was a Veteran of the US Navy during WWII. A member of the American Legion of West Lafayette, Indiana and the Masonic Lodge. Charles was a "Jack of all trades, master of none". On June 9, 1950, in Union Mills, IN, he married Hazel L. (Ames) Graves who preceded him in death on March 25, 2004. He is survived by his 3 sons - Charles L. (Debra Franklin) Graves of Daytona Beach, FL, James Graves of W. Lafayette, IN, Charles R Graves of Houston, TX; daughter - Melinda (Doug) Delamater of West Lafayette, IN; 9 grandchildren; 9 great- grandchildren, and one brother - Lawrence Graves of Houston, TX. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one son, Claude Graves. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends Monday, December 17, 2012 from 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Monday December 17, 2012 at 2:00 pm with Bishop Dwight Ames officiating. Interment will follow at the Union Mills Cemetery, Union Mills, Indiana, where a Military Service will be conducted by the American Legion Post #83.
