Mr. Merle Benjamin Martin, age 87, of 0998 E. CR 1000 N., La Porte, Ind., died Friday, February 10, 2006, at his residence in La Porte, Ind. He was born February 25, 1918 in Headlee, Indiana to late Pleasant Martin and the late Elsie Musall Martin, and has lived in LaPorte County for at least 70 years. Mr. Martin was employed in the sheet metal department by New York Blower and was a member of Lambs Chapel United Methodist Church. He was also a part-time farmer, he loved woodworking, and he built bird houses, made unique walking canes. He was proud of his home grown potatoes; he was an avid fisherman and enjoyed his family and friends. On May 20, 1939 in LaPorte, IN. he married Esther Meyers who survives. He is also survived by Two Daughters, Judith A. Swanson of New Carlisle, Ind., Mrs. Nancy Larry I Huge of Liberty, S.C.; One Son, James E. Doris Martin of Plymouth, Ind.; Eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren and Two great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, One Sister, Mrs. Mildred Keehn; and One Brother, Mr. Delmar Martin. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind., where the family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, February 14, 2006 and Wednesday February 15, 2006 from 9:00 AM until time of service. Funeral service will be at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc. at 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 15, 2006, Pastor Charles Krieg officiating. Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Mill Creek, Ind.
