Melvin Schoof

Mr. Melvin R. Schoof, age 66, of LaPorte, Ind., died 2:30 PM, Tuesday August 12, 2008, at his residence in LaPorte, Ind. He was born October 6, 1941 in LaPorte, Indiana to the late Lawrence Schoof and Gladys Wilhelm Schoof, he had lived in the LaPorte area all of his life. Mr. Schoof was employed by Howmet Corp. for 26 years and retiring in 1996, after retiring, he worked for the LaPorte Community School Corp. as a School Bus Aid. He was a member of Immanual Lutheran Church of Tracy, Indiana. Veteran of US Army. American Legion Post #83, Century Club of Howmet Corp., he was a 1959 graduate of Union Twp. High School. He enjoyed fishing hunting and loved his family and especially his grandchildren very much. On October 22, 1966 in LaPorte, Indiana, he married Arlene M. McCoy. He is survived by his wife Mrs. Arlene M. Schoof of LaPorte, Indiana; His Mother, Mrs. Gladys Schoof of Hamlet, Ind.; One Daughter, Lois Michael Swanson of LaPorte, Indiana; One Son, Marcus Lisa Schoof of LaPorte, Ind.; Five grandchildren, Jordan Schoof, Aaron Schoof, Morgan Schoof, David Swanson and Olivia Swanson; Two Brothers, Larry Schoof of Hamlet, Ind., Arnold Schoof of Hamlet, Ind. He is preceded in death by his father; Lawrence Schoof. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc. 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind., where the family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM Saturday, August 16, 2008. Funeral service will be at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc. at 1:00 PM Saturday, August 16, 2008, with Rev. David Albertin, officiating. Interment will be at Tracy Cemetery in Tracy, Ind. A Military Service will be conducted at the Tracy Cemetery in Tracy, Ind.
