Melba Evory

Melba Lee Evory March 20, 1922-September 15, 2016 Melba Lee Evory, 94, of Walkerton, Indiana, passed away Thursday September 15, 2016 at Indiana University Health La Porte Hospital. She was born March 20, 1922 in Port Clinton, Ohio, the daughter of Erwin White and Myrtle (Hough) White. Melba was a member of Huntington First Christian Church, former member of Mary White Guild, member of First Christian Church of LaPorte and Women's Group Guild, and Eastern Star. She enjoyed playing the clarinet in the high school orchestra/band, playing clarinet in church worship band, watching TCM classic shows and movies. Melba enjoyed playing cards, sewing, knitting, and crocheting. On September 19, 1944 in Huntington, IN she married Oved Holmes, who preceded her in death June 3, 1966. On October 3, 1970, in La Porte, IN, she married Hubert L. Evory who preceded in death February 19, 1986. She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Holmes of Walkerton, IN; son, Donald Holmes of Walkerton, IN; ten grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren; thirteen great great-grandchildren; niece, Gwenloree Pettigrew of Indianapolis, IN. Melba was preceded in death by her parents, birth mother, Florence Carnicom, previous spouse, Oved Holmes, son, Robert Holmes, daughter, Sharon Bennitt, brother, George Hubbard, brother, Clifford White, grandson, Joseph Bennitt, grandson, Jason Holmes, great-grandson, Marc Lantz. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN. A Graveside Service will be held directly at Olive Chapel Cemetery, Monday September 19, 2016 at 10:00 am with Rev. Kit Billings officiating.
