Maxine Manges

Maxine LaRue Manges November 20, 1931-May 4, 2018 Maxine LaRue Manges, 86, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Friday, May 4, 2018 at the VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso, Indiana. She was born November 20, 1931 in Grey, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Leo Shortt and Goldie (Ringler) Shortt. Maxine was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in La Porte and a member of the VFW Aux. She was a homemaker and also was a babysitter for several years taking care of over 60 children through the years. Maxine also worked for Avon and Galena Elementary School. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, but most of all spending time with her family and church. On June 24, 1950, in La Porte, Indiana, she married Ivan Manges who preceded in death April 26, 2002. She is survived by her two sons, David Manges of Hesston, IN, Keith (Tina) Manges of Anderson, SC; daughter, Susan Kessler of South Bend, IN; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Jean Lohr of Elkhart, IN; brother, David Shortt of Plymouth, IN; Companion, Bill Richardson of Rolling Prairie, IN. Maxine was preceded in death by both her parents, sister, Phyllis Comeno, three brothers, Joe Shortt, Jerry Shortt, Larry Shortt. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, Indiana where the family will receive friends Tuesday, May 8, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Haverstock Funeral Home and Wednesday, May 9, 2018, 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 907 Michigan Ave., La Porte, Indiana. A life celebration will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Noel C. Olse officiating.
