Maurice Tompkins

Mr. Maurice F. Tompkins, 82, of 134 Regency Pkwy., LaPorte, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, at 4:30 p.m. at Fountainview Terrace, LaPorte. He was born June 22, 1921, in Kankakee, IL, to Maurice and Gladys Geisleman Tompkins, and had lived in LaPorte all of his life. Mr. Tompkins worked for R & J Gumz Farms, Inc., as a manager for 45 year, retiring in 1993. He was a member of LaPorte Yacht Club, American Legion of Kingsford Heights, also a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, Battle of the Bulge. On Nov. 9, 1946, in LaPorte, he married Bess A. DeArmond who survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Terry John Tanzi of LaPorte, one son, Mark Ann Tompkins, of San Jose, CA, one sister, Lucille Jernes of Wanatah, IN, ; and three grandchildren, Sara Tompkins, Michael Tompkins, Steven Tanzi, and Jeffery Tanzi. He was preceded by his parents. The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, LaPorte, with Rev. Ted Norquist officiating. Friends may call Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the Haverstock Funeral Home. A wake service will be conducted Friday at 7 p.m. at Haverstock Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Patton Cemetery, LaPorte , with the Kingsford Heights American Legion, conducting a military service. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Assoc., 208 S.
