Mary Purkal

private family service for Mary A. Purkal, 89, of 0341 W. U.S. 6, La-Porte, will be held at a later date. She died Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, at La-Porte Hospital. There will be no visitation. Cremation will take place. Haverstock Funeral Home, LaPorte, is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John?s Lutheran Church, 111 Kingsbury Ave., La-Porte, IN 46350; or to VNA of La-Porte, PO Box 250, LaPorte, IN 46352. She was born March 28, 1915, in Chicago to Charles Sr. and Ida Benzel Purkal, and had lived most of her life in the LaPorte area, coming from Chicago in the 1920s. She retired in 1980 as an accountant/bookkeeper with Tibma Bakery, LaPorte, after 30 years. She was a member of St. John?s Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing cards at the Swanson Activity Center for Older Adults and enjoyed being with her family. Surviving are one sister, Lucille of LaPorte, and one brother, Richard of LaPorte.
