Mary Jeanette McCormick, 95, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away peacefully Monday, May 29, 2023 at Brickyard Terrace Center in La Porte.
She was born March 24, 1928 in La Porte, Indiana, the daughter of Samuel Lewis and Julia (Prokop) Lewis.
A lifelong resident of the area, Mary graduated from Rolling Prairie High School in 1946. On June 29, 1947 in Rolling Prairie, Indiana, she married Loran McCormick, who preceded her in death on January 26, 2003. Together, Mary and Loran resided in Hudson Lake. During World War II, Mary worked at the K.O.P. putting primer in 90 mm gun shells, then became a full-time mother and homemaker, taking great pride in her family and home. Mary was a member of the First Christian Church of Rolling Prairie. She was a good cook and known for making "the best" apple pie. Mary also made dozens of Christmas cookies every year to gift to family and friends. She found peace in watching birds perch at the bird feeder, enjoyed fishing, sewing clothes for her grandchildren and taking family trips to their favorite rental cabin site in Hayward, Wisconsin. Most of all Mary loved and valued time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her two daughters, Carol McCormick of La Porte, IN, Debbie (Daniel) Conrad of La Porte, IN; son, Michael (Chelley) McCormick of Fish Lake, IN; five grandchildren, Michael, Tony, Julie, Joshua, and Steven; 5 great-grandchildren, Mikey, Conner, Joseph, Haley and George and one great-great-grandchild.
Along with her husband Loran, Mary was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Louise Kegebein and Hazel Jeffries.
Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends Monday, June 5, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. A Celebration of Life service will immediately follow at noon with Deacon Dave Peery, officiating. Interment will follow at Rolling Prairie Cemetery in Rolling Prairie, Indiana.
