Mrs. Mary E. Kessler, 92, of 0665 W. C.R. 400 South, LaPorte, died Thursday, April 21, 2005, at 11:40 a.m. at Countryside Place, LaPorte. She was born September 6, 1912, in Hanna, IN, to Orville and Lucretia Shurte Garner, and has lived in the LaPorte area all of her life. Mrs. Kessler started her working carrier as a secretary with WLOI radio station, The First National Bank, during W.W. II she work at the K.O.P., and then she worked for the Co-operative Extension Service for 20 years retiring in 1974. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Naomi Circle of the Church, Friendly Neighbor Extension Homemakers Club, LaPorte Co. Historical Society, Genealogical Society, The Camera Club, and was a Cub Scout Leader and a 4-H leader. On February 1, 1936, in LaPorte, IN. she married Glenn Kessler who preceded in death on April 1, 1996. Surviving are one daughter, Ms Patricia J. Kessler of Fort Wroth, TX; four sons, Mr. Glenn T. Patricia Kessler of LaPorte, Mrs. Dennis G. Joyce Kessler of Aurora, Co., Mr. Eugene O. Dianne Kessler of Williamsburg, VA., Mr. David L. Julie Kessler of LaPorte; fourteen grandchildren; six step grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; eleven step great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; one sister Ruth E. Yeoman of Hanna, IN. The funeral will be Monday at 10:00 a.m. at Haverstock Funeral Home, LaPorte, with Rev. Douglas Hadley officiating. Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. and Monday 9 a.m. until the service. Burial will be in Union Mills Cemetery.
