Mary Johnson

Mrs. Mary Ruth Johnson, 88, of 1622 Ohio Street, LaPorte, Indiana passed away Tuesday June 8, 2004 at Countryside Place in LaPorte. She was a life long resident of LaPorte County. Born August 26, 1915 in Wills Twp., LaPorte, Indiana to Harry Trendle and Fanny May Halter Bennitt. She married Carl Gilmore Johnson on July 16, 1933 in New Carlisle, Indiana, who survives. Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker and had worked formerly for Reid-Murdock Candy Co., the Kingsbury Ordinance Plant and an Avon representative. She was a member of First Christian Church of LaPorte, Ruth Circle and past president of LaPorte Fire Deptment Auxiliary in 1948. She also graduated from LaPorte High School in 1933. Surviving with her husband are one daughter; Beverly J. Richard Ehrick of LaPorte, one son; Carl L. Judy Johnson of LaPorte, one brother Harry T. Bennitt of Fairhope, Alabama, two granddaughters Brenda Dr. Samuel Cotton of Knightstown, Indiana and Rhonda Michael Smith of LaPorte, two grandsons; Brian Ehrick of LaPorte and Scott Lori Ehrick of LaPorte. Also six great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Preceding with her parents are two brothers; William and Furmon Bennitt, one sister; Ethel Stayback. Private family services will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home with Rev. Penelope Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Patton Cemetery.
