Mary Dimmett

Mary Anne Dimmett, 80, of La Porte, IN, passed away on Thursday March 31, 2011 at her home. She was born January 17, 1931 in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, the daughter of Courtney Kirk and Mae Marie (Brothers) Kirk. Mary had worked at American Home Foods and Kaiser Aluminum, retiring in 1988. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, and Lady's Auxiliary Evansville Chapter. Mary was an avid gardener; she had been awarded the Terre Verde Award in 1988. On July 14, 1951, in Evansville, IN, she married Theodore Dimmett who preceded in death December 9, 1990. She is survived by her two sons - Michael Dimmett, Kevin Dimmett both of La Porte; three daughters - Linda G. Wireman, Jennifer Dimmett, Julie Edgecomb all of La Porte; four grandchildren - Courtney Bird of La Porte, Adam Wallis of Bradenton, FL, Phillip Bird of Fairbanks, AK, Stephen Bird of San Diego, CA; one step-sister - Viola Dimmett of Evansville, IN; half-brother - Roger Schmalenberger of Stevensville, MI. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Stephen Dimmett, brother, Freddie Kirk. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. where the family will receive friends Tuesday, April 5, 2011 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm & Wednesday, April 6, 2011 9:00 am, until time of services. Services will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Wednesday April 6, 2011 at 10:00 am with Pastor Jim Gippert officiating. Interment will follow at the Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte, IN.
