Marvin D. Harrington

Marvin D. Harrington, 86, of New Carlisle, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, IN, surrounded by his family.
He was born May 8, 1936 in Lakeside, Michigan, the son of Pearl Harrington and Jessie (Hickman) Harrington.
Marvin attended Lakeside High School and after successfully passing his USAFI GED, entered the United States Marine Corp, where he served from 1953-1963 in both Korea and VietNam. He was a truck driver and Teamster, retiring from Bendix in 1991. In 1980, Marvin moved from Dowagiac, MI to New Carlisle and on July 18, 1981 he married the late Esther Harrington at the First Christian Church in Niles, MI. Marvin was a member of the Marine Corp Asso. and the 3rd Marine Division Asso. He started and was the president of the State Line Bass Anglers Club, as well as being the owner of Meadowdale Skydivers Club, Michigan City, where he performed in air shows around the area. Marvin was part of the La Porte County Sheriff's Dept. Marine Patrol, where he participated in Lake Michigan rescues. He loved fishing, was an avid hunter, and enjoyed both national and international travel with Esther, particularly their winter trips to Texas. Most importantly, Marvin was a wonderful father and grandfather who will be missed by his family.
He is survived by his son, Donald (Karen) Harrington of Mishawaka; daughters, Roxanne (Chris) Brimhall of Edwardsburg, MI, Connie (Doug Little) Harrington of Dowagiac, MI; step-daughter, Jackie (Dennis) Metcalf of La Porte, IN; step-son, James (Annette) Pearish of Fish Lake, IN; brother, Rodger (Nancy) Harrington of Lakeside, MI; 17 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Along with his wife Esther, Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Shirley Pudue and first wife, Ruthann Osborn.
Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends on Saturday, September 10, 2022 from 10:30 to 12:30 central time. A Celebration of Marvin's life will follow at 12:30 at the funeral home, with military honors. Cremation will take place. Both Marvin and Esther will be inurned at Ft Custer National Cemetery at a later date.
