Mrs. Marlene A. Strang , 76, of La Porte, Indiana, died Wednesday April 29, 2009 at La Porte Hospital in La Porte, Ind. She was born November 25, 1932 in Michigan City, Indiana, the daughter of Joseph Coar and Mildred Helmker Coar, living in the LaPorte area, for seventeen years coming from Michigan City, Ind. Marlene worked as a bookkeeper for NIPSCO for fifteen years and also worked at Eastmore in Michigan City, Ind. for twenty-three years. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in LaPorte, Ind. Marlene was a fan of Elvis, she enjoyed baking and playing the piano and organ. Marlene enjoyed doing yard work with her husband. In 1955 in Michigan City, Ind., she married Wayne Strang who survives. She is also survived by her sister, Sally Lee Timm of Michigan City, Ind.; brothers, Bill Marlene Coar of New Buffalo, Mich. and Joseph Betty Coar of LaPorte, Ind. and several nieces and nephews. Marlene was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph C. Coar Jr., brother, Patrick A. Coar. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. where the family will receive friends Saturday, May 2, 2009 from 9:00 am to 10:45 am. A memorial service will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church, Saturday May 2, 2009 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Ronald A. Brauer officiating.
