Mr. Mark E. Aldrich, 89, of La Porte, Indiana, died Saturday November 28, 2009 at St. Francis Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Green Springs, OH. He was born September 5, 1920 in Angola, Indiana, the son of D. Dean Aldrich and Edna Spade Aldrich. Mark received an engineering degree from Tri-State University in 1948; he moved to LaPorte and worked for Allis Chalmers. In 1965 he was transferred to LaCrosse WI and returned to LaPorte in 1966. After Allis Chalmers closed he became a project engineer for the Sate Highway Department and retired in 1984 after 11 years of service. He was a member of the First Christian Church of LaPorte, LaPorte Camera and Travel Club; he was a scout master for the Boy Scouts and Explorers for nine years. He was veteran of the US Army as a staff sergeant during WW II. On June 7, 1942, in Angola, IN, he married Katherine J. Carrick Aldrich who survives. He is also survived by his son Thomas M. Kathryn Aldrich Sr. of Clyde, OH; four grandsons Thomas Amy Aldrich Jr., Aaron Charlotte Blackwell Aldrich, Gregg Rachael Aldrich, James Melissa Kaiser Aldrich; and eight great grandchildren. Mark was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Donald Aldrich, and step brother, Ned Sherrick. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. where the family will receive friends Thursday, December 3, 2009 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm. A Memorial Services will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Thursday December 3, 2009 at 7:00 PM with Rev. Gene Paul officiating.
