LouAnn Slaven, 83, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Friday, February 7, 2025, at her home.

She was born July 3, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Henry Uchacz and Lillian (Wyduch) Uchacz.

Growing up in Chicago, Illinois, LouAnn graduated from Visitation High School. On January 7, 1977, in Chicago, she married Michael A. Slaven, who preceded her in death February 27, 2012. In 2006, she moved to Northern Indiana and spent her last two years in La Porte. In her younger years, LouAnn volunteered as a candy striper, reflecting her caring nature and desire to give back to her community. She was a proud member of the American Contract Bridge League, playing in many tournaments and enjoying the strategic challenge of duplicate bridge. Her love for golf was well-known; she was an enthusiastic golfer and regularly played at the River Forest Country Club in Chicago, where she was also an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary. LouAnn had a zest for life that extended into her hobbies and interests. She was an avid reader, impressively finishing over 200 books in the past year alone. Her curiosity and love for storytelling often sparked lively conversations, showcasing her quick wit and sassy humor. Beyond her literary pursuits, she found joy in playing bunco, bingo and Wii bowling, remaining active in the senior center in La Porte, where she forged meaningful friendships. She will be lovingly missed by all. 

She is survived by her daughter, Gina Marie Slaven; brother, Robert Uchacz; two grandchildren, Marina, Jenny; four great-grandchildren, Sam, Declan, Nolan, Ashlynn; Godchild, Pamela Sweeney, and a large extended family. 

Along with her husband of 35 years, LouAnn was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Ann Marie Slaven and sister, Eileen Piety.

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN. Cremation has taken place. 

Memorial contributions may be made in LouAnn's name to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
