Lori Smiskey

Lori L. Smiskey October 10, 1959-February 22, 2016 Lori L. Smiskey, 56, of Michigan City, Indiana, passed away in her home on Monday, February 22, 2016, alone, after a brief battle with breast cancer. Born on October 10, 1959 in Michigan City, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth C. Smiskey and Adeline Joan (Gabrunas) Smiskey. Lori is survived by one brother, Terrence (Patricia, deceased) Smiskey of Michigan City; one sister, Karen (Tom) Collison of Phoenix, Arizona; a nephew, Cary Collison of Phoenix; and a special niece, Colleen Keith and husband James of Mt. Washington, Kentucky. She was also predeceased by her beloved dog, Mary Rose on February 18, 2015, who also died of cancer. Lori was a secretary for The Tree Mann, Inc. of LaPorte, Indiana for the last 22 years and they became like family to her and her to them. Prior to that, she had been employed with Crowe, Chizek and Company, CPA's where she started while still in high school and worked for 17 years. Lori spent most of her life as a caregiver to her elderly parents and, therefore, never married. She was an avid gardener and was known for her beautiful backyard and garden near the 14th green by those that played the Municipal Golf Course. Her children were the pets she raised, Freddy, Lady, and Mary Rose. She also enjoyed kayaking, biking, walking, and all of the great state parks that Indiana offered. In accordance with her wishes, there will be no service and cremation will take place. Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Avenue, LaPorte, Indiana, has been entrusted to handle the arrangements.
