Mr. Leslie A. Sievert, 64, of Rolling Prairie, Indiana, died Friday September 25, 2009 at La Porte Hospital. He was born January 2, 1945 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Leslie Paul Sievert and Ida Mae Ashley Sievert. Leslie worked as a Tool & Die Maker / Machinist for seven years for Steel Warehouse of South Bend, IN and retired in 2006. He was a member of St. John Kanty Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and Holy Name Society of St. John Kanty Catholic Church. Les was a very loving and adoring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and he will be loved & missed always and forever by all of his family. He always knew how to make us smile with his stories which we will never forget. In our hearts he will always be. On September 16, 1977, in St. Petersburg, FL, he married Juanita Crespo who survives. He is also survived by one son Richard Sievert of Delta, OH; three daughters, Julie Benjamin of La Porte, IN, Jeanie McClellen of Lago Vista, TX, Melissa Hildreth of Delta, OH; two sisters Sandy Olson of Howell, MI, Pat Schmidt of Farmington Hills, MI; eight grandchildren, including Cpl. Josh Benjamin, U.S.M.C., who he looked upon as a son. Josh has served two deployments to Iraq and is now volunteering to go to Afghanistan. He is also survived by one great granddaughter; several nieces and nephews and his dog Ramsey. Leslie was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Paul Richard Sievert and a Niece Terri Schmidt. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. A memorial mass will be held at St. John Kanty Catholic Church of Rolling Prairie, IN, Saturday October 3, 2009 at 10:30 AM with Father Michael Heimer officiating. The family of Leslie Sievert requests that memorial contributions to the American Lung Association National Headquarters 1301 Pennsylvania Ave., NW, Suite 800, Washington, DC 20004. would be graciously accepted in lieu of flowers.
