Lela M Walters October 12, 1918-December 16, 2015 Mrs. Lela M. Walters, 97, of New Carlisle, Indiana, passed away Wednesday December 16, 2015 at Hamilton Communities, Inc. in New Carlisle, IN. She was born October 12, 1918 in Whitesburg, Kentucky, the daughter of Hiram Mitchell and Mary (Shephard) Mitchell. Lela was a member of the First Baptist Church, Friends and Neighbors Home Extention Club, LaPorte Business Girls, and her church circles. On September 9, 1939, in Whitesburg, KY, she married Howard Walters, who preceded her in death October 10, 1998. She is survived by her two grandchildren, Lisa (Kyle) Hicks of Garden City, MI, Pamela (Sean) Harris of Fayetteville, NC; great-grandchild, Austin (Ericka) Harris; great-great grandchild, Autumn Harris; one sister, Nela Emby of Franklin, OH, and one brother, Jonah Mitchell of Bronston, KY, and son-in-law, Claude Gilbert. Lela was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Janice Gilbert, two sisters, Felsia Redman, Patsy Konieczny, four brothers, Henry Mitchell, Jonah Mitchell, Kenney Mitchell, and Mason O. Mitchell. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends Monday, December 21, 2015, from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm and Tuesday, December 22, 2015, from 10:00 am, until time of service. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Tuesday December 22, 2015 at 11:00 am with Rev. Kyle Hicks officiating.
