Mr. Lawrence John Heidel, age 83, of 1205 W. 10th St., La Porte, Ind., died Sunday, February 19, 2006, at LaPorte Hospital in La Porte, Ind. He was born June 2, 1922 in Rolling Prairie, IN. to the late Ludwig Heidel and the late Lytha Mueller Heidel and he has lived in the LaPorte area all of his life. Mr. Heidel was employed as a customer service representitive by Allis Chalmers Corp. for 42 years and retired in 1983. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, he held several offices within St. John's Lutheran Church, was a Veteran of the US Air Force during WW II, he was a Cryptographer for the Flying Tigers in China. He was also a Cub Scout Leader. He enjoyed gardening, bowling, stamps and coin collecting. On June 2, 1946 at the St. John Lutheran Church in LaPorte, Ind. he married Elaine Hilgendorf who survives. He is also survived by Three Daughters, Mrs. Sharon Dale Coyle of Mooresville, Ind., Mrs. Janice Tom Chambers of La Porte, Ind., Miss Elyse Heidel of La Porte, Ind.; One Son, Mr. Rodney Ellen Heidel of La Porte, Ind., Six grandchildren, Mrs. Debra Brian Coss of Florida, Mrs. Jill Matt Tharpe of LaPorte, Ind., Mrs. Melanie Steve Rayner of LaPorte, Ind., Mr. Scott Sherrie Coyle of Martinsville, Ind., Mr. Jason Mindy Heidel of Lake Charles LA., Mr. Bryan Kristy Chambers of Rolling Prairie, Ind.; Four Great-Grandchildren and Six Step Great Grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, One Sister, Mildred Sahloff and one brother, Mr. Louis Heidel Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind., where the family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Wednesday, February 22, 2006 and 10:00 AM Thursday until time of the Service at the St. John Lutheran Church. Funeral service will be at St. John Lutheran Church at 11:00 AM Thursday, February 23, 2006, Rev. David Young officiating. Interment will be at Patton Cemetery in LaPorte, Ind.
