Mrs. LaVerne I. Baker Stumpf, age 86, of La Porte, Ind., died Sunday, September 21, 2008, at LaPorte Hospital in La Porte, Ind. She lived most of her life in the Chicago, area, and retired in LaPorte County. She was born August 4, 1922 in Chicago, Ill to the late John Baker and the late Irene Schleyer Baker. Mrs. Stumpf was employed by Economic Club of Chicago, as an Assistant to the Executive Director for 35 years and retiring in 1994, she was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of LaPorte. She loved spending time with her family. In September of 1943 in Kentucky, she married Charles A. Stumpf who preceded in July 2, 1991. She is survived by her; Four Daughters, Mrs. Sharon James Wessel of La Porte, Ind., Pamela Hoffman of Chicago, Ill. Peggy Jose Bayron of Chicago, Ill., Melissa Raymond Page of Downers Grove, Ill.; Four Sons, Charles J. Stumpf of La Porte, Ind. John G. Stumpf of Chicago, Ill., Michael F. Stumpf of Vincennes, Ind., Mark R. Christine Stumpf of Chicago, Ill.; One Son-in-law, Michael Flynn of Chicago, Ill.; Fourteen Grandchildren and Six Great-Grandchildren; One Sister, Sister-Jane Jack Donnelly of Peoria, Ill.; One Brother, James Patricia Baker of Arlington Heights, Ill., and many nieces and nephews. She preceded in death by her; Mother, Irene Schleyer Baker; Father, John Baker; Husband, Charles A. Stumpf; one daughter, Susan Flynn and one brother; John Baker. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind., where the family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, September 23, 2008 and from 12:00 PM to 12:45 PM Wednesday at Haverstock Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 1:00 PM Wednesday, September 24, 2008, Rev. Ted Nordquist, officiating. A wake service will be held at 6:00 PM Tuesday 09/23/2008 at Haverstock Funeral Home. Cremation will take place, with burial of ashes at a later date in the Pine Lake Cemetery in LaPorte, Ind.
