Kathy Lou Graves, 83, of Bridgman, Michigan, passed away Tuesday August 20, 2024 at in her home, surrounded by her loved ones 

Kathy was born June 12, 1941 in St. Joseph, Michigan, the daughter of Henry Smith and Lulu Mae (Sutter) Smith, who preceded her in death.

A lifelong resident of Berrien County, Kathy graduated from St. Joseph High School, class of 1959, the last graduating class before a new high school was built. She pursued her passion for helping others by attending nursing school at South Bend Memorial Hospital. On December 1, 1962, in Bridgman Michigan, Kathy married the love of her life, Terry Graves Sr., who survives. Kathy dedicated over 15 years of her career to Hardings Grocery Store, followed by another 15 years working in medical records at Berrien General Hospital in Berrien Springs before retirement. A longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bridgman, Kathy enjoyed attending numerous Bible studies and was actively involved in the church community. She also participated in the library ladies group, where she enjoyed playing cards and engaging in various crafts. A true craft enthusiast, Kathy had a remarkable talent for creating beautiful projects, her favorite being with rubber stamps. Her creative spirit allowed her to transform everyday materials into cherished handmade treasures, embodying her belief that one could make something out of nothing. Kathy was known for her warm personality and ability to connect with everyone she met. Nobody was a stranger to her; her friendly demeanor and infectious smile made her a cherished figure in the lives of many. As her husband, who was Kathy's best friend and favorite dancing partner, fondly said, "She ruled the roost. She was the one who got them through the years, and always with a smile on her face." She will be missed by all who knew her.

Along with her husband of 62 years, Terry, Kathy is survived by six sons, Robb Graves of Bridgman, MI, Paul Graves of Berrien Springs, Jeff Graves of West Palm Beach, FL, Terry (Lori) Graves Jr. of Buchanan, MI, Charles Graves of Bridgman, MI, Patrick (Stacy) Graves of St. Joseph, MI; sister, Judy Smith of Sault St. Marie, Michigan; six grandchildren, Robbyn (Jed) Barclay, Shawn (Genevieve) Graves, Allison (Dominic) Ciccantelli, Elizabeth Graves, Haven Graves, Mariah (Andrew) Clements; six great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN. Cremation has been selected, with a memorial service at a later date.
