Katherine Crail

Katherine Sue Crail, 76, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Friday February 28, 2025 with her loving husband and her family by her side. 

She was born February 17, 1949 in La Porte, Indiana, the daughter of Harry E. Morrison Sr. and Charlotte R. (Wise) Morrison.

A proud graduate of La Porte High School, Class of 1967. Katherine dedicated her life to her family, embodying the roles of a loving and supportive wife and mother. She nurtured her family with the same kindness and gentleness that defined her character, making her home a warm and welcoming haven. On July 1, 1975, in Kingsbury, Indiana, Katherine married the love of her life, Gregory Crail, who survives. Her passion for creating a wonderful home-life extended beyond her family, as she also positively impacted many children as an aide in various capacities at Stillwell Elementary School and as a teacher aide at the La Porte YMCA KinderCare. She found joy in the simple pleasures, from shopping and crafting to gardening and planting flowers, activities that reflected her love for beauty and nature. During the summer months, she loved to soak up the sun by the pool, while in winter, she found delight in angels and snowmen, celebrating the season. Above all, Katherine’s greatest love was her family, which served as the foundation of her life. She is remembered not just for her numerous contributions and hobbies, but for the warmth she brought into the lives of those who knew her. Her legacy of love, kindness, and support will endure in the hearts of her loved ones and the many children whose lives she touched. 

Along with her husband of 49 years, she is survived by two daughters, Karen S Wingard, Melinda K Lipscomb; son, Brian (Sabrina) M Crail; three sisters, Sharon Zarr, Gloria Gladden; Cynthia Stockwell; brother, Harry E Morrison, Jr.; seven grandchildren, Brandon, Justine, Katelyn, Juwan, Lauren, Gavin, Keean; and five great-grandchildren, Hannah, Kingsley, Kashton, Jace, Julius; 

Katherine was preceded in death by parents, and sister, Mary Ann Morrison.

In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Dunes Hospice 4711 Evans Ave. Valparaiso, IN 46383 and/or Alzheimer’s Association 225 N. Michigan Ave. Floor 17 Chicago, IL 60601in Katherine’s name.

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN where the family will receive friends for a visitation Wednesday, March 5, 2025 from 10 a.m. until service time at 12 noon with Pastor Jeff Ziegler officiating. Interment will follow at the Kingsbury Cemetery, La Porte, Indiana.
