Judith J. Avery June 25, 1943 - March 22, 2016 Judith J. Avery age 72, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her devoted daughters, Deanna (Michael) Hanley and Debbie (Tom) Wiltfong; grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Eric) Donahue and Shelby Wiltfong; great grandchildren, Logan, Mason and Raegan Donahue; sister, Barbara (late Paul) Shreve; sister in law, Darla Block; many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Preceded in death by her husband, Charles Avery; sister, Katherine Block and brother, Robert 'Punch' Block. Judi was born on June 25, 1943 in Michigan City, IN to Robert and Catherine Block who preceded her in death. She was a 1961 graduate of Elston High School in Michigan City, IN. On August 29, 1964 she married Charles Avery in Michigan City, IN. Together they raised their two daughters in LaPorte, IN and later in South Bend, IN. Judi was an accomplished writer for 19 years at the LaPorte Herald Argus with the honor of receiving awards from the Society of Professional Journalists. As a writer, one of her favorite things to do was play reviews for the LaPorte Little Theatre and Footlights Players in Michigan City, IN. Judi was the Resident Council President at Golden Living Center Countryside. She was involved in all the activities with the residents. She enjoyed painting, water colors and ceramics as well as spending time outdoors tending to her garden and bird watching. Her greatest pride and joy were her grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Golden Living Countryside and Aseracare. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at 6:00 PM (CST) with Pastor Dennis Meyer officiating at Haverstock Funeral Home 602 Maple Avenue LaPorte, IN. Cremation to follow. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Saturday from 3:00 PM (CST) until time of service at the funeral home.
