Jose A. Saldivar, 74, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Tuesday May 25, 2021 at Northwest Health-La Porte.

He was born May 29, 1946 in Combes, Texas, the son of Ramiro Saldivar and Petra (Quintanilla) Saldivar.

On April 1, 1967, in South Texas, he eloped with Gloria Olivarez Saldivar, who survives.

He is also survived by his son, Rodolfo "Rudy" (Kimberly) Saldivar of Fishers, IN; two daughters, Sandra Rothbauer of Hobart, IN, Selena (Joseph) Cope of Portage, IN; four brothers, Guadalupe, Francisco, Luis, and Ramiro Saldivar; four grandchildren, Lauren Rothbauer, Emily (Jorge) Quiles-Reyes, Oliver Cope, Octavia Cope.

Jose was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Florencio Saldivar.

After marrying Gloria, Jose and his new bride moved to La Porte in 1967 from South Texas, where he provided for his family as a truck driver working for KAT and American Signature.   Jose was a very hard worker and a servant to many others, dropping everything if a friend or family member needed help. Jose and Gloria traveled to Texas every winter to stay with family and help when needed. Family was important to him.  Jose liked being in his garage tinkering with his many tools or outside, tending to his roses, which he brought from Texas because he loved the color.  He especially enjoyed home improvement projects, the Beatles music, muscle cars of the 60's and 70's and loved to spoil his beloved dog, Bella.

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN where the family will receive friends for a viewing on Monday, May 31, 2021 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 1 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Harry Funk, Assembly of God Church, officiating. Interment will follow at the Patton Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana.

The family has requested that anyone attending these events wear a mask and practice social distancing.
