John Charles Neary, 54, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Saturday, November 18, 2023 at his home.
John was born September 10, 1969 in La Porte, Indiana, to Timothy Joseph Neary and Sylvia Jayne Thode.
John was a carpenter by trade and the owner/operator of Johnny Splinters LLC. He was a man of many skills and accomplishments. He spent many years working in the I.T. (Information Technology) field, and was an instructor in computer science at Purdue University North West. He was very athletic and participated in the La Porte County Triathlon for several years and a half Ironman in Florida. He enjoyed biking, hiking (especially the Appalachian Trail), and many other outdoor pursuits including a deep love of sailing. He was very close to his family, especially his nieces and nephews. John also was an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 2439 in La Porte, IN.
John is survived by his mother, Sylvia Jayne Thode of La Porte, IN; stepmother, Lizbeth Neary of Bedford, IN; stepfather, Martin Lee (Lisa Oakes) Ringla; girlfriend, Sarah Murphy of LaPorte, IN; sister, Jennifer Lee (Timothy) Neary-Kluska of La Porte, IN; brothers, Joel Christian Neary of Elkhart, IN, and Thomas (Rue) Drnek II of La Porte, IN; brother-in-law, Thomas Owen and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
John was preceded in death by his grandparents Charles and Loretta Neary, Carl and Kathryn Thode, father Timothy Joseph Neary and his sister, Julie Anne (Neary) Owen.
Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN. A Celebration of life will be held on December 10 at 1 PM at the Fraternal Oder of Eagles 190 W. McClung Road. La Porte, IN 46350.
